Baltimore has many great festivals, but the Baltimore Herb Festival definitely ranks as one of the tops.  If you have never been, you must to go this year!  This 25 year old festival, whose primary focus is herbs, is located on the beautiful grounds of Leakin Park and features dozens of vendors in addition to guest speakers, nature exhibits, demonstrations, train rides and more.  Along with the most impressive selection of herbs that you will ever find, many traditional, as well as unusual, vegetables, decorative plants, fountains & sculpture and other gardening items are available.  Admission to the festival is $5.

From annuals and perennials to native plants and vegetables, there is something for everyone! Gorgeous hanging baskets, herbs, trees, shrubs, rare and native plants.

Many of the plants are grown on-site by the Cylburn Arboretum Association, Baltimore City Recreation & Parks and UME Baltimore City Master Gardeners while others come from area garden clubs, specialty growers and non-profits.

The Spring 2012 Butchers Hill Flea Market and Craft Fair will be presented by the Butchers Hill Association on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The event is located in the northwest part of Baltimore’s Patterson Park near familiar landmarks — the Pagoda, the Marble Fountain, and the White House. Vendors and buyers will enjoy a great outdoor setting, live band music, and picnic food and beverages offered by Butchers Hill.

Join this 20-year-plus flea-market tradition, either as a vendor selling ‘fleas,’ both old and new, or crafts, creations, and other valuables, or by kicking back for a day of fun and bargain-hunting.

2nd Annual “Who Wants to be an Urban Farmer?”

The second “Who Wants to be an Urban Farmer” is a morning of workshops that provide the opportunity to learn specific production techniques utilized at urban farms in Baltimore, Maryland. Each workshop will present a different specialized tool to growing food for production in Baltimore City. The workshops will be focused on urban farming and production, and presented in a scope and scale able to be transferred to backyards and open urban green space. The best recipients of the workshops will be new urban farmers, and home and community gardeners looking to improve their operations with efficiency, diversification, and output.

 Topics will include:

• urban chickens
• scaling up with appropriate tools
• installing irrigation for less labor
• season extension
• plus more!
