Maryland wants 50,000 native trees planted by 2010. Coupons for your help.

Maryland Departments of Natural Resources, Agriculture, Energy, the Environment and the Governor’s Office have come together in the new Maryland Smart, Green and Growing campaign to restore the Chesapeake Bay, preserve our land, revitalize our communities, create green jobs, improve transit, conserve energy and address climate change.

As part of this effort they have created the Maryland Plant Trees Program where the government is working with garden centers and nurseries to offer Marylanders native trees at a discount. A $25 coupon is available for customers purchasing a native tree at $50 or more at a participating business, such as Herring Run Nursery in Baltimore.  Herring Run Nursery is conveniently having a Native Plant Sale this weekend: Saturday October 3rd from 12-4pm

6131 Hillen Road
Baltimore, MD 21239
In the Mount Pleasant Golf Course.  The nursery is a 1/4 mile walk from the parking lot.  It is open by appointment and during our fall and spring sales.

As of September 23, 18,450 have been planted.  The coupons are available for use until November 30, 2009.  For a list of participating garden centers and nurseries, CLICK HERE.
