Who wants To Be An Urban Farmer? -Workshop

Baltimore Green Week & Real Food Farm presents:

The second “Who Wants to be an Urban Farmer” is a morning of workshops that provide the opportunity to learn specific production techniques utilized at urban farms in Baltimore, Maryland. Each workshop will present a different specialized tool to growing food for production in Baltimore City. The workshops will be focused on urban farming and production, and presented in a scope and scale able to be transferred to backyards and open urban green space. The best recipients of the workshops will be new urban farmers, and home and community gardeners looking to improve their operations with efficiency, diversification, and output.

 Topics will include:

  • urban chickens
  • scaling up with appropriate tools
  • installing irrigation for less labor
  • season extension
  • plus more!

Real Food Farm is currently accepting applications for a Mobile Market Coordinator and a Agricultural Projects Coordinator.

Both positions will begin in March 2012 and run through October 2012. 40 hours per week.  Pay will be a modest bi-weekly Americorps stipend and an education award upon completion of the term. Americorps enrollment is not required to apply.

Real Food Farm, a new urban agriculture project in Northeast Baltimore’s Clifton Park, has opened a winter food stand.  They are offering turnips, radishes, arugula, spinach, kale, herbs, lettuce, and a mesclun salad mix at the Green School of Baltimore at 2800 Brendan Ave, off Belair Rd.

Vegetables sold at the stand are grown at Hoop Village on the Real Food Farm.  In October 2009, Real Food Farm created Hoop Village, a group of 3 agricultural hoophouses (impermanent greenhouses), as a source for local produce during winter months.  To learn more about Real Food Farm and Hoop Village, CLICK HERE.
